Sahara India decided to sponsor 13 boxers



New Delhi (IANS): After its success at the Beijing Olympic Games last year, Indian boxing received a major boost on Monday as Sahara India decided to sponsor 13 boxers.

The 13 boxers include five Olympians Vijender, Akhil Kumar, Jitender Kumar, Dinesh Kumar and Antharesh Lakra. While Vijender won a bronze medal, Akhil and Jitender came close to sniffing distance of winning Olympic medals at Beijing.

"We sincerely hope that there would be more sponsors coming forward to support boxing, boxers as well as the activities of the federation also in the future," said Indian Boxing Federation (IBF) secretary P.K. Muralidharan Raja.

Sahara India is also the sponsor of the cricket and hockey teams. The company is also in talks with European and English football champions Manchester United over a sponsorship deal.
