Sharath, Soumyajit qualify for main draw in Kuwait Open



New Delhi, Feb 12 (PTI) Olympian Achanta Sharath Kamal and teenager Soumyajit Ghosh came out with flying colours to figure among the six Indian paddlers who qualified for the main draw of Pro tour Kuwait Open in Kuwait City today.
Continuing his rampaging form, Sharath drubbed Ahmed Al-Habashy of Kuwait 4-0 to book his berth in the round of 64.

Sharath, who spanked Hamad Buhijji of Brunei and Ovidiu Ionescu of Romania with an identical scoreline yesterday, will now take on Hong Kong's Ko Lai Chak tomorrow.

Earlier in the day, 15-year-old Soumyajit Ghosh delivered one of the best performances of his young career to stun much experienced Belarussian Aleksandar Kuchuk 4-1, thus making his way to the next round.

The Bengal boy will lock horns with Chinese Qi Chen in the next round.

Besides, former national champion Subhajit Saha thrashed Salah Al-Sanadi of Qatar 4-0 to set up a clash with German paddler Dimitrij Ovtcharov in the first round of main draw.

Among others, Sourav Chakraborty, A Amal Raj and Jubin Kumar also qualified for the main draw. PTI
