London, Feb 11 (IANS) England's 2005 Ashes hero Simon Jones will be making a comeback in domestic cricket.
Jones will be available for Worcestershire for the start of the new season in April.
Jones underwent major knee surgery in September after a successful first season at New Road following his switch from Glamorgan.
Worcestershire's director of cricket, Steve Rhodes, is pleased with the progress made by Jones on the road back to fitness.
Jones impressed sufficiently last summer to be named in England's initial squad of 30 for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan before the tournament was cancelled.
'You saw the resurgence of Simon last season and he was a pleasure to work with,' Rhodes, a former Worcestershire and England wicket-keeper was quoted as saying in English media.
'Simon is on course to start the season. He had a major operation and it meant he had to take the weight off his leg and his knee and he was on crutches for a long time. But he has been busy in the pool and the machines in the gym and he is soon to start doing some running. Once he can run, he will not be far off bowling straight away.'
Rhodes is also optimistic that the county's 2009 overseas player, the Australian all-rounder Ashley Noffke, will be fit despite currently struggling to play for Queensland because of a back problem.
