Nazira team disqualified

Sports reporter
GUWAHATI, March 29 – Major anomalies have emerged regarding age of players in the Dilip Sarma Memorial Inter-district School Tournament which is simultaneously going on at Nagaon, Guwahati and Maligaon.

The tournament, introduced by the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) last year, is for students in the age group of under 15 years. But it has appeared that almost all the participating schools have violated rules by fielding players above the higher limit.

Based on a complaint filed by Loyla English Medium School of Nagaon, the ACA has carried out medical examination to probe the age of players of HSMP School of Nazira and found all the 14 players of the team were over-aged. Following medical report, the ACA disqualified the Nazira team from the championship. The ACA secretary today said several players of schools like Dhemaji, Mangaldai and Kokrajhar are also found over-aged. ASSAM TRIBUNE
