Pak PM Gilani to give Rs 1 crore to hockey team

LAHORE: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday announced Rs 1 crore for the Pakistan hockey team which would take part in the World Cup commencing in New Delhi from February 28.

The team would get the amount irrespective of their performance in the World Cup.

Wishing them the best of luck, Gilani told the players that the nation expected them to demonstrate team spirit and sportsmanship, irrespective of results, he said.

He asked them to display the best behaviour and conduct as representatives of Pakistan. He also assured that contracts of all the members of the Pakistan hockey team with government departments and organisations would be converted into regular appointments.

Pakistan Hockey Federation President Qasim Zia was also present on the occasion.
