East Bengal stops Bagan 3-0

KOLKATA: A resurgent East Bengal stopped Mohun Bagan’s winning streak beating the latter 3-0 in a 16th round match of the I-League football here at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday evening.

The hero for East Bengal was its diminutive midfielder Syed Rahim Nabi, who shone in the set-piece situations forging a vital 2-0 lead in the first session. The East Bengal opener came in the 21st minute when Nabi jumped clear of a tardy Mohun Bagan defence to nod the ball home. He repeated the act in the 40th minute guiding home a swerving free kick from his midfield colleague.
