Bhopal, Feb 8 (PTI) Elections for the post of President of the Indian Hockey Federation scheduled this year can take an interesting turn in view of their being contested by former IHF president K P S Gill and senior Congress leader, Gufran Azam of Bhopal.Gill was elected IHF President at Bhopal in May 1996 at a time when Gufran was also supposed to contest the elections but backed out at the last moment following intervention of the then Madhya Pradesh Chief Ministe, Digvijay Singh.
After Gufran's withdrawal, Gill was unanimously elected IHF President and he continued in this post till last year when he was asked to go after India failed to qualify in hockey for the Olympics.
After being elected IHF president, Gill had nominated Gufran as the vice-president of the IHF but he resigned from this post soon after. PTI
