Holland thrash Kiwis 4-1

Holland thrash Kiwis 4-1
Chandigarh: In a lop-sided affair, Holland thrashed New Zealand 4-1 to seal a place in the final of the four-nation Punjab Gold Cup hockey tournament here today. For Holland, who led 2-0 at half-time, Bob Voogd (24th), Lucas Judge (30th), Wauter Jolie (45th) and Jeroen Hertzberger (68th) were the goal scorers. Nick Haig, who sounded the board in the 62nd minute, was the lone goal scorer for New Zealand. The Dutch, with 11 points from three wins and two draws, have booked a place in the summit clash with this win, while the Kiwis are out of the contention. In the first leg, Holland had defeated New Zealand by an identical margin of 4-1 and today also they were clearly a dominant team as the black sticks looked completely out-of-sorts. In the 24th minute of the first half, Voogd put his team in the lead with a field goal and six minutes later, Judge extended the lead with another field goal. In the 45th minute of the match, Jolie made sure that another penalty corner does not go wasted and, with a neat drag-flick, made it 3-0 in favour of Holland. Haig managed to reduce the margin for Black Sticks as he made full use of a penalty corner awarded to his team in the 62nd minute of the match. However, Holland rounded up the tally in the 68th minute when Hertzberger struck home through a skillful move in the field. (PTI)
