National Rugby begins today
Second National Rugby 7-A-side championship will get under way at the Nehru Stadium on Saturday. Altogether 12 teams are taking part in the championship. It is for the first time that the city would host the national championship of rugby. But it is not a new game for the sports lovers of the city as the event featured in the 33rd National Games. The 12 teams that will take part in this championship are West Bengal, Asom, Haryana, Maharastra, Jammu and Kashmir Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Orissa, Chhatishgarh, Tamil Nadu, Manipur and Kerala. The 12 teams are divided into four groups and host Asom is placed in group ‘B’ along with West Bengal and Haryana. The tournament will kick off with the match between Tamil Nadu and Manipur while Asom will play its first match against West Bengal.
Boat race on Sunday
The Assam Traditional Sports and Dragon Boat Association will organize the U-19 level boat race competition on Sunday. The president of the organizing committee and Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Rural) Ramesh Chand Jain in a media briefing said that 15 boys and 6 girls teams would take part in the championship. The competition would be held at Pitkai beel near Hajo.
Asom bag gold
Asom won three medals including one gold in the recently concluded U-19 National School Games Kick Boxing Championship held at Solapur, Maharastra. Raju Sutradhar and Bhargav Jyoti Gogoi won gold medals while Dwithun Mushahary collected bronze medals in the championship.

Motor bike meet from Feb 14
Dibrugarh will host the fifth North East Polo Super Cross 2009 Prize Money Motor Bike Competition from February 14 -15 after a gap of 12 years.
Disclosing this at a press meet held here yesterday, technical expert of Dibrugarh Motor Sports Club, Tarique Rahman stated that the competition would be held at the local polo ground as per the specification of the Federation of Motor Sports Association. Rahman further stated that the theme of the competition would be ‘Peace Leads to Prosperity’ The competition will be held in two categories – Indian Expert Class and Novice Class—and willing participants can submit their entry form on or before the February 12 along with the entry fees of Rs 500. The participants of Novice Class are to be allowed 136 CC and 165 CC motor bikes while participants for Expert Class are allowed to ride upto 260 CC motorbike, Rahman added. He stated that total prize money for both the categories would be Rs 20,000.

3-day school basketball from Feb 20
