New Delhi: Delhi shot putter Om Prakash signed off his European tour on a high note by claiming the third place in the Spanish Indoor athletics championship at Seville.
Om Prakash heaved the iron ball to a distance of 18.62m in the very first throw. Vivas Jimenez Borja of Spain won the event with a 19.34m throw ahead of compatriot Martinez Gutierrez Manuel (19.28m).
The 21-year-old Om Prakash has been on a European indoor competition tour to improve his performance. He had finished seventh with a throw of 18.25m in the Pedros Cup at Bydgoszcz in Poland on February 11 and then a creditable fifth in a strong field in the IAAF Indoor athletics meet in Valencia in Spain three days later.
He is among India’s elite athletes group preparing for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, to be held in Delhi. — PTI
