THIRUVALLA: Thiruvananthapuram defeated Wynad 5-4, via the tie-breaker, and entered the quarterfinals of the 45th Kerala State inter-district football championship at the Municipal Stadium here on Sunday evening.
The teams were level 1-1 at the end of the regulation period with the goals coming from Thiruvananthapuram’s Ignatius (43rd minute) and Wynad’s Rajesh Kumar (85th).
Wynad messed up a good chance of taking the lead when Miresh muffed a penalty three minutes from close.
Earlier, two quick first-half goals helped Thrissur defeat Kannur 2-1 and enter the quarterfinals.
The results (pre-quarterfinals): Thrissur 2 (Ratheesh 32nd, Sumesh 37th) bt Kannur 1 (Atul Krishna 57th).
