Barek, Matowara winners in Marathon

Abdul Barek bagged the men’s title in the Ranjit Gogoi All Assam Marathon Championship held in Guwahati on Wednesday. The women’s title was won by Matowara Ahmed (Barpeta). Altogether 30 runners took part in the men’s event while in the women’s section, the number of entries were 12. Barek, who turned up for NF Railway, completed the race clocking 2 hours 36:05 seconds while Matowara, an athlete from Barpeta, took 1hour 36 minutes and 31 seconds to bag the first spot. The winner in the men’s section received a cash award of Rs 5,000 while Matowara was richer by Rs 4,000. There was cash award for few other position holders too in both the categories.
The first fourth position holders in each category: Men: First: Abdul Barek (N F Railway), Second: Saiful Ali (Barpeta), Third: Somesh Uddin ( Guwahati), Fourth: Azghar Ali (Nalbari).
