Assam Police emerged champion in the 34th Senior Inter District Athletics Championship which concluded at the Indira Gandhi Stadium at Sarusaji on Wednesday. Assam Police have collected 20 medals in the championship which includes 14 gold, three silvers and three bronzes. North East Frontier Railway came second with eight gold, two silvers and one bronze medals.
However, the performance of the Guwahati team was not upto the mark as they had to satisfy with the fifth spot bagging two gold, seven silvers and five bronze medals. Meanwhile, few events were held in the concluding day of the championship.
Assam Police collected gold medals in the 4X400 m relay in both men and women sections. In the hammer throw event, Mukul Buragohain (29.81m) came first in the men’s section. In the women’s category, Tiluttama Deka of Morigaon collected the gold medal throwing the hammer in a distance of 25.17 m. Pabitra Medhi and Dipti Chutia, both from Assam Police, were adjudged the best male and female awards of the championship. THE SENTINEL
