State footballer dead

GUWAHATI, March 3 – Former State footballer Tafiqueuddin (Rubul) Ahmed died at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital this afternoon. He was 40.

Rubul was an employee of the Assam State Transport Corporating (ASTC) and represented the State junior and school teams on several occasions as goalkeeper. He also represented the State handball team in national championships on a couple of occasions. He was a familiar footballer of the GSA league, playing for the ASTC team in nineties. His untimely demise has cast a pall of gloom among the football players of the city. Assam Tribune
